A lot of homes now have one or more computers that are used frequently either for work or leisure purposes, the popularity of home broadband has meant that a lot more people are now connected to the internet and it is now considered a standard utility alongside water, electricity and gas by most people. In many homes there isn't enough room for a desktop PC to be allocated a space to sit; instead a laptop computer will be the preferred option.Laptops are now preferred in homes as they can be stored away when they aren't needed and not take up large amounts of space when they are in use, as the name implies they can literally be sat on your lap whether you are sat on a couch or at a table you can check emails, watch videos and listen to music at ease with a laptop computer.

Laptops used to be considered as slower or less powerful compared to desktops as the components would obviously receive less power from a battery than from direct mains power and compromises will have been made to make sure that the laptop isn't too heavy and oversized too. Most laptops will have external display outputs that can connect to larger monitors or even HDTVs so you can use an external display but the keyboard may still be an issue as some may have difficulty typing on smaller or compressed keyboards.
It is worthwhile doing research before any purchase of a laptop to make sure you know what specifications are best for your needs as well as testing keyboards and displays to make sure you are comfortable with them as you will be using them a lot.
