Block viruses from entering your USB drive

Jul 28, 2009

USB drives are the most popular virus carriers these days. Here is the simple yet powerful command prompt trick with which you can create a dummy file that can block any incoming virus to your Pen drive.

1. Note down the free space in bytes left in your USB drive. To do that, just right-click with your mouse on your USB drive and select properties where you can find the Used space and free space shown in bytes.

2. Go to start-->Run... and type
cmd and click Ok to open the command prompt(DOS) window.

3. At the command prompt type the command having the syntax as follows:

fsutil file createnew [USB drive path\filename] [free space in bytes]

for example, if the drive letter for your USB drive is 'K', the free space available is 1528864758 bytes and filename you want to use is dummyfile then the command you have to type is:

fsutil file createnew k:\dummyfile 1528864768

As soon as you press ENTER after giving this command a file will be created in you USB drive occupying all the free space available.

Now your USB drive cannot accommodate any incoming viruses as it has zero free space. You can check that from your drive properties. As you can see in the image below the free space left is zero as we have created a dummy file with all the free space available in the step above.
And whenever you want to copy files to your USB drive from secured sources, just delete that dummyfile created and copy the data you wanted and again create a dummyfile that occupies the remaining free space.

This command prompt trick is the best preventive measure to block any virus form entering your USB drive.

How to Delete Undeletable Files in Windows

It happens quite often that you want to delete a non-required file and it does not get deleted by normal method. When you try removing it by the normal delete method a message saying 'Error Deleting File or Folder' pops out saying that it cannot delete the file as the file is already in use. In such case you need to make sure that the file is not being used by some other program or it is not write protected.
The other variants of this error message include:

Cannot delete file: Access is denied
There has been a sharing violation.
The source or destination file may be in use.
The file is in use by another program or user.
Make sure the disk is not full or write-protected and that the file is not currently in use.

If your are certain that the file is not write protected then here is the how you can safely delete the file:

1. Go to Start-->Run... and type CMD (or) COMMAND and press OK which open the command prompt window. Leave it open and make sure you close all other running applications.

2. Go to Run dialog box again and type TASKMGR.EXE and press OK to access the task manager. (alternatively you can also use the keyboard shortcut Ctrl+Alt+Del to go to task manager)
Now go to Processes tab and End Process named 'explorer.exe' by right clicking on it and choosing End Process.

3. Shuffle back to Command prompt without closing the task manager window. (Use Keyboard shortcut Alt+Tab). Now using DEL command, delete the file.

Syntax:
--> At the command prompt if you are in the same directory as of the file you wanted to delete, just give the following command at the command prompt

DEL (filename).(extension)

--> And if you are in the other directory, you have to specify the entire path of the file to delete it.

DEL (path of the file)\(filename).(extension)

For example, if you want to delete a file named 'movie.flv' in your G: drive, and at the command prompt you are in the C: drive then the syntax to delete the file is

DEL G:\movie.flv

4. Now, use Alt+Tab to go back to Task Manager and from the file menu choose New Task(Run...) and type explorer.exe and click OK in order to restart your Windows shell. That's it!! You have successfully removed the unwanted file from your PC.

If you find the above method of deleting the file a bit difficult, then you have to use an amazing software called 'Unlocker' which can easily kill the processes that are using the file and unlock the file so that you can easily delete or edit it.

How to convert Ntfs to FAT32??

Jul 27, 2009

o you want to convert Ntfs to FAT32??
I have a solution for your problem. Ntfs can be converted to FAT32 without losing data. Here's how. Follow the exact steps or it may cost you data loss.

Maybe I could change your mind
------------------------------
Make completely sure that you need to convert Ntfs to FAT32. You should have no reason to if you don't intend to install older OS which do to support Ntfs.
>>Disk access is faster in Ntfs than in FAT32
>>Fragmentation has less impact on performance in Ntfs. Defragmentation is also very quick.
>>Windows does not have to check disk even if it is shut down improperly. Data loss does not take place during improper shutdown on Ntfs volumes.
>>Conversion process may lead to data loss.
So think properly before doing this.

Caution:
--------
Using this program may be illegal and may cause data loss. Make sure that you have backed up your data to another HDD or CD-R before using the procedure explained...

Requirements:
-------------
1. A Computer Running Windows (95 or later)
2. A Blank FAT32 Formatted Floppy Disk
3. A Working Floppy Disk Drive
4. Minimal Amount of Knowledge on use of Computers and simple terms
5. Little bit of Patience and Discipline
6. A zip file from
7. An Unzipper (Winzip, WinRAR, Zip Genious, WinXP inbuilt Zipfile support or any Unzippers you can find)

Procedure:
----------
1. Make sure that you have 1, 2 and 3 and of course 4 and 5. Make sure that the drive you want to convert to FAT32 DOES NOT have ANY COMPRESSED and/or ENCRYPTED FILES. Decompress/Decrypt them all before proceeding.
2. Get 6 by downloading.
3. Get 7 by downloading or browsing old Digit CDs. If you have Windows XP, you don't need one.
4. Unzip pqboot.zip to any folder. Keep all the files in the same folder.
5. Read the Readme.txt (included in the pqmagic.zip) for information on how to use the program to create a bootable floppy with Partition Magic with the help of the files provided.
6. Boot with the floppy created.
7. Run pqmagic.exe from the floppy.
8. Perform the required operation. For eg., in this case, you'd want to convert Ntfs to FAT32, so in Partition Magic, choose Operations>>Convert>>Ntfs to Fat32, by selecting the drive you'd want to convert to Ntfs.
9. After the Operation is complete, take the floppy out and hit Ctrl+Alt+Del to reboot your PC.
10. Look to see if booting is normal. It should be.
11. Be happy for what you have done.
12. DOn't forget that I have helped you.
13. Thank me (Optional).
14. Post back in the forum saying something like "The process explained by _khAttAm_ works....... It rocks" or something like that.

Result:
-------
1. At least a FAT32 drive created.
2. A happy you.

Source:
-------
The instructions are completely written by me. (you had alresdy guessed that)
The file pqmagic.zip contains the following files with their sources:
1. Readme.txt-- Written By Me
2. DI.exe-- I got it from a website. I think it was http://www.bootdisk.com in a Zip archive with some other files.
3. bootmake.exe-- I myself wrote and compiled it with the help of Quick Batch File Compiler.
4. Bootable Floppy Maker.pif-- Made it myself. It is a MS-Dos shortcut and I can make it, of course.
5. pq.img-- It is a bootable floppy image created with the help of Windows 98 'sys' command and the other files required for Partition Magic are copied onto it, in a virtual floppy drive, in a virtual environment, under MS-Virtual Machine.

Acknowlwdgement:
----------------
1. Thanks to you all for taking time to read all this @$%*.
2. Thanks to my mom who never lets me use the computer.
3. Thanks to my college where I have an exam now, so I don't want to study at all and have time for all these.

SH!T........ why am I writing all these?? And Why are you reading all these?? ..............
You have already had the job done right??

View Deleted/Removed YouTube Videos

How is thispossible? Well when a video has been removed from YouTube, it is not immediately deleted from their servers. Just like our hard drive. When we delete a file and empty the recycle bin, is it not really deleted. It is only marked as deleted and is ready to be overwritten. So if it is not being overwritten, we can still view the videos but of course not from youtube.com.

Viewing removed YouTube videos is easy. Here's how to do it.

First of all, you need to know the Video ID which is at the end of the YouTube link. An example of a YouTube video link is http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UzeV1Ux5YlI

The video ID for the link above is UzeV1Ux5YlI

Just copy and paste it in the ID text box and click view video. Here are a few sites that is able to play deleted YouTube videos. Surprisingly, they are all not the same. I've tested a deleted video ID on all 3 sites but one of it reported that it could not find deleted video. So if you desperately need to watch a deleted video, try on all of the sites and you might get to watch it.

1. UndeleTube

- A normal deleted youtube video viewer. Works well.

2. DeletedYoutubeViewer

- This is a bit special compared to the other two because you are able to search for deleted YouTube video through the VideoID or YouTube User. If you know the user that uploaded the deleted video, you can search the user name.

3. Delutube

I did not like this site so much because there are full of advertisements. Before get to watch a video, I need to wait 4 seconds. Not only that, this is the site that couldn't find the deleted youtube video that I am looking for.

Troubleshoot User Profile Error

This is one of the most difficult errors to get rid of, which is encountered by many but due to the lack of proper troubleshooting tips on the internet they end up doing full PC format. So, here is the exhaustive list of troubleshooting tips which can fix this error for sure.

The Error logs for this type of error are as follow:
------->
Windows cannot find the local profile and is logging you on with a temporary profile. Changes you make to this profile will be lost when you log off.
For more information, see Help and Support Center at http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/events.asp.

------->
Windows was unable to load the registry. This is often caused by insufficient memory or insufficient security rights.
DETAIL - Error performing inpage operation. for C:\Documents and Settings\(your computer name)\ntuser.dat
For more information, see Help and Support Center at http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/events.asp.

------->
Windows has backed up this user's profile. Windows will automatically try to use the backed up profile the next time this user logs on.
For more information, see Help and Support Center at http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/events.asp.

------->
Windows cannot load the locally stored profile. Possible causes of this error include insufficient security rights or a corrupt local profile. If this problem persists, contact your network administrator.
DETAIL - Error performing inpage operation.
For more information, see Help and Support Center at http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/events.asp.

Troubleshooting
Follow the steps below and after each step restart you PC and check if the error has been rectified. These troubleshooting tips denote/follow the increasing order of complexity to eliminate the error which ends with a full PC format when all the other mentioned tips above it doesn't rectify your error.

First of all Update the Anti-Virus program in your PC to the latest and run a full system scan. Quarantine/Delete any viruses found.

You can also run an On-line Virus Scan from any one or all of these

Use ESET's free online virus scanner now

Free online virus scanner offered by Trend Micro

McAfee FreeScan

After the virus scan restart your PC and if you are fortunate enough your error will be fixed. If not, follow these troubleshooting tips one by one until you get rid of the error.

Troubleshooting Tip-1

Run check Disk on your Root Directory ( the disk where you have installed your OS)

For that go to My computer and right click with your mouse on the root directory and select Properties. Now go to Tools tab and click on Check Now... under Error Checking

Note: tick the two check disk options that say 'Automatically Fix File System Errors' and 'Scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors' before clicking Start.

As you are accessing some of the files from the root directory it may display an information window that prompts you to schedule the disk check when you restart your PC. Choose the option 'Yes' to confirm disk check.

This tip is all required to correct the error in most of the cases coz this user profile error mostly occur due to bad clusters.

During the disk check you get a message mentioning windows has replaced bad clusters

If you didn't get this message and your error still persist then move on to tip-2

Troubleshooting Tip-2

Turn on "show hidden and system files" in folder options and go to your Documents and Settings folder where you can find a hidden file called "NTUSER.DAT". It is probably corrupt. You can check that by opening it in notepad/wordpad which makes it really laggy as it can't read the bad sector and it may even crash after a while.

All you can do is to rename the file with a ".bak" extention and reboot. An older version of your registry will be recovered, from a day or two before the crash.

If the error still exists, here is the next tip.

Troubleshooting Tip-3:

Your Group Policy might have a User Configuration setting to prevent the user from making changes to their profile.

This can be rectified by changing the type of user profile from Roaming Profile to Local profile.

1. Right click with your mouse on My Computer and select Properties.

2. Go to Advanced tab and click on the setting under User Profiles

3. Select the profile from the list of profiles stored on your computer and click "Change Type" which open Change Profile Type window

4. Select Local Profile and click OK and Reboot. Now check whether the error is fixed. If no is your answer, move on to next tip.

Troubleshooting Tip-4: SYSTEM FILE CHECK

Verify whether all your system files are intact in their original versions or not by running System File Check. Some viruses may modify your system files or even delete some of them and disable the stability of your PC. With this check you can restore all your system files back to their original versions.

Do as follow:

1. Go to Start-->Run and type CMD or COMMAND which open the Command Prompt(DOS) window.
(OR)
---->It would be even better if you Boot your PC into "safe mode with command prompt"
To enter "safe mode with command prompt" follow the steps below
i) Re-boot your PC, after the first beep press F8 key several times
until windows boot screen appears.

ii) Now from the list of boot options select "safe mode with command
prompt" and hit enter which will take you to the command prompt.

2. At the Command Prompt type "sfc /scannow" (without quotes and also make sure to add space after sfc)

3. This Starts 'Windows File Protection' and it prompts you to insert your Windows OS CD to copy the files that are required for windows to run properly. Insert the CD and click retry which accesses the required files from the CD and completes the process.
4. After completion of the process Re-boot your PC.

Troubleshooting Tip-5: SYSTEM RESTORE (safe mode)

Restoring your PC to an earlier date when it worked well may sometimes rectify this error. Doing the system restore in safe mode is preferable.

1) Re-boot your PC, after the first beep press F8 key several times until windows boot screen appears.

2) Now from the list of boot options select "safe mode" and hit enter

3) A window will open asking if you want to use "System Restore" with the options OK and Cancel.

4) Select "Cancel" to enter "System Restore"

5) Ensure "Restore to an earlier time" is checked and click "Next"

6) From the highlighted dates, select an earlier date when your PC worked well and
Click "Next"

7) Allow system restore to happen and reboot.

Troubleshooting Tip-6

1. Go to Start-->Run.. and type msconfig and press OK

Your System Configuration Utility window will appear.

2. Go to "Services" tab

3. Check the box "Hide all Microsoft services"

4. Click "Disable All"

5. Click Apply and OK

6. This prompts you to restart your PC for the changes to take effect. Press OK to restart.

7. After the reboot, check if problem still exists.
(Note: Do not access the internet during this process)

8. If problem is fixed, from the list of services(System Configuration Utility window) enable the disabled items 1 at a time and reboot until you find the one causing the problem.

9. Even now if your error is not fixed, re-enable all and Un-check "Hide all Microsoft services" in System Configuration Utility Services window and reboot.

Troubleshooting Tip-7
This is all about creating a new user profile and copying the data from your corrupted user profile. (Thanks to Microsoft Help and Support Team for this data)

Create a new user profile on the domain computer

1. Log on as the Administrator or as a user with administrator credentials.
2. Click Start, and then click Control Panel.
3. Click User Accounts.
4. Click the Advanced tab, and then click Advanced.
5. In the left pane, click the Users folder.
6. On the Action menu, click New User.
7. Enter the appropriate user information, and then click Create.

Create a new user profile on the workgroup computer
1. Log on as the Administrator or as a user with administrator credentials.
2. Click Start, and then click Control Panel.
3. Click User Accounts.
4. Under Pick a task, click Create a new account.
5. Type a name for the user information, and then click Next.
6. Click an account type, and then click Create Account.

Copy files to the new user profile

1. Log on as a user other than the user whose profile you are copying files to or from.
2. In Windows Explorer, click Tools, click Folder Options, click the View tab, click Show hidden files and folders, click to clear the Hide protected operating system files check box, and then click OK.
3. Locate the C:\Documents and Settings\Old_Username folder, where C is the drive on which Windows XP is installed, and Old_Username is the name of the profile you want to copy user data from.
4. Press and hold down the CTRL key while you click each file and subfolder in this folder, except the following files:
* Ntuser.dat
* Ntuser.dat.log
* Ntuser.ini
5. On the Edit menu, click Copy.
6. Locate the C:\Documents and Settings\New_Username folder, where C is the drive on which Windows XP is installed, and New_Username is the name of the user profile that you created in the "Create a New User Profile" section.
7. On the Edit menu, click Paste.
8. Log off the computer, and then log on as the new user.

Note: You must import your e-mail messages and addresses to the new user profile manually before you delete the old profile as this method may not transfer the Outlook Express e-mail messages and address.

Now check if the error is fixed. NO ??

You have done all that you could to fix it.

So the only option left with you is to do a full PC format and install your OS again.

But I am sure that you won't reach here coz you will end up fixing your error with one of the troubleshooting tips above.

Hope this Helps...

Feel free to share this with all your friends.

How-To Set Logon Hours and Control User Logon Time in Windows XP

Jun 2, 2009

Have you ever wondered How-To restrict unauthorized members to access you PC/network or have you been using costly software to restrict your children from logging to ur PC at odd times??..... If the answer is yes, then here is a solution for you that lets you set Logon hours to your PC so that you can set limits on the times a certain user account is able to logon to the computer. This tweak work for all PC's running on Windows XP.

This can be done in DOS with the use of simple yet wonderful command
"net user"

Let me give you a brief intro about NET USER command.
NET USER is a command used in the command console to create and modify user accounts on computers.

To do this you should have Admin. privileges.

Now, let us know How-To modify a user account by setting Logon Hours.

1)Goto Start-->Run... type cmd or command to get command prompt.

2)If you want the user account for the computer to be listed

type net user without command-line switches and press enter (see below image.Click to enlarge)

Let us know about user accounts listed..

Administrator and Guest are Built-in accounts used for administering and guest access to the computer/domain respectively.

Help Assistant is the Account For Providing Remote Assistance.

SUPPORT_xxxxxx is the vendor's account for the Help and Support Service.

By default you will be having all the above user account.

Besides these, you can create other user accounts with your desired user names as you would do.

VUSR_RAMARAOBOBBY which can be seen in the image above is the
Account for the Visual Studio Analyzer server components.
As I would do Visual Basic programming i got that account listed as well.

3) Now let's learn how-to set logon hours for a user account (say guest) taking an example.
If you wanna do it for other accounts type that user name in place of guest in commands below..

at the command prompt when you type as below

net user Guest /time:M-Su,8am-10am

you made the Guest account to logon only between 8am-10am daily.(coz we have give interval as M-Su)

day codes as follows
Monday -M
Tuesday -T
Wednesday-W
Thursday-Th
Friday - F
Saturday- Sa
Sunday -Su

(as DOS is not case sensitive you can use small or capital letters)

Hours can be mentioned 12-hour or 24-hour notation. For 12-hour notation, use am, pm.
While representing time in 24-hour notation use as 08:00 - 10:00

Note::
only sharp values are accepted for time & Separate day and time entries with a comma

4) To set logon hours at different times for the same day use ; as separator

and To set logon hours at different times for different days use : as separator

for example if you want to set logon hours between 8am-10am and 2pm-5pm daily
then type the command as follows

net user /time:M-Su,8am-10am;M-Su,2pm-5pm

likewise if its for different days use : in place of ;

Note:: When you have given the command correctly then a message saying The Command Completed Successfully will appear after press enter.

and After setting logon hours when you try to logon outside the time interval given , it asks for a password and wont allow you to logon even though you type the correct password. (as in image below, click to enlarge)

5) To disable this feature and make user log on always type as below

net user /time:all

6) To restrict the user to never logon use blank in place of all..

net user /time:

As i have said earlier The command completed successfully message comes when you typed the command correctly (as shown)

Try this on your PC.. n post comments...

Note:: The command can restrict user from logging in but cannot initiate a log off when account is in opened state.

And plz don't misuse this trick.

How-To Connect your Computer to your TV

don't need to have an expansive media PC to have a great digital home experience.

You can connect any home computer to your TV very simply and cheaply and I am gonna show you how to do it.

There are two things that we have to connect namely (i) Audio & (ii)Video

First lets connect the video.

Most newer TV's are basically plug and play right out of the box, so look on the back pannel of your TV for one of the following ports.
Now look at your computer back pannel connections.
Most use VGA to connect to monitor. So you will need a Standard VGA Cable as below image
to connect your TV to your PC.

You can easily find one online from or you can get it from your nearest electronic store or buy it from amazon link below.

For MAC users
The MAC mini has a DVI connection with a VGA display adapter, so that can be connected automatically using VGA cable.
You just have to buy a VGA male to male cable. Order it from here easily or get it from your nearest electronic store.

NOTE:: If you have been watching TV and wanna switch to computer input, you need to change from TV to RGB mode on your TV.

Now, if you TV doesn't have VGA or DVI then look for S-video or RCA.
Go back to your computer and if you have TV out, you may have either one or both of these outputs. So use the appropriate RCA or S-video cable to connect.

If your computer doesn't have TV-out, you can buy a VGA to TV converter.
You can order it from here or buy in any of your nearest electronic store.

This just converts your computers VGA output into either RCA compatible or S-video based on your TV. But the picture quality is not as good as using VGA or DVI.
DVI stands for Digital Video Interface and it give the best quality closely followed by VGA.

Now, If you want to be able to switch back and forth from a normal monitor to your TV without unplugging the cable, you will also need a KVM switch.

As shown in above image connect VGA port A to your monitor and VGA Port B to your TV and connect I/O Video port to your computer. The other two ports given under each video are just for a keyboard or mouse connection. So you need not worry about that.

You can pick this KVM switch or 4-Port MiniView PC PS/2 KVM Switch Kit with Cables(PS/2) from here...

Note:: If you are having an old model TV you won't be having any of the ports above except a single RF connector. In that case you have to buy RF audio_S-video modulator to accomplishes our task of connecting TV to PC.
You can get one online from here

High Blood Pressure Tips

Mar 23, 2009

University of Maryland cardiologist and hypertension expert Elijah Saunders, M.D., offers advice on controlling your blood pressure and protecting your heart.
The heart, a muscle about the size of a fist, is one of the hardest working organs in our bodies. Over the course of an average life span, it beats about two and a half billion times without ever taking a break. The daily choices we make about how we live our lives determine our hearts' ability to function optimally.
According to the American Heart Association, cardiovascular disease is the number one killer in the United States. More than 2,600 people die of heart disease every day, which translates into one cardiovascular death every 33 seconds.
Control Your Pressure
The average adult has about five liters of blood flowing through the body via an intricate network of blood vessels called arteries, veins and capillaries. Blood is essential to life for it delivers oxygen from our lungs to our body tissues, and carries harmful waste to the kidneys to be removed. Blood also transports hormones from our glands to various parts of our bodies, as well as vitamins and nutrients from our digestive tracts.
When our blood vessels become clogged due to a plaque buildup of cholesterol and fat, our hearts must work twice as hard to pump enough blood to our vital organs. This is what causes our blood pressure to surge.
As the pressure increases inside of our arteries, veins and capillaries, our hearts become even more overworked. Over time, our hearts grow larger in an effort to compensate for the extra workload and eventually they become weaker.
When you add obesity, smoking, or diabetes to the mix, the risk of heart attack, stroke or kidney disease for those with high blood pressure increases dramatically. This is why it is important to know what your blood pressure is.
Experts recommend that you maintain a blood pressure lower than 140/90 mm Hg at rest. The higher number represents the maximum pressure exerted when the heart contracts (systole). It reflects the stiffness of the large arteries near the heart, and the volume of blood pumped into them. The lower number represents the pressure exerted when the heart begins to relax between beats (diastole), just before the next contraction. It measures the amount of constriction of the body's smaller arteries or arterioles
Good Reasons to Exercise
A great way to lower your blood pressure and combat the corrosive effects of plaque buildup is to exercise. Studies have shown that sedentary lifestyles tend to elevate blood pressure, while regular exercise can reduce it.
According to Saunders, exercise is so effective at controlling blood pressure because it stimulates a substance within our bodies called nitric oxide. Nitric oxide is produced by our endothelial cells, which live on the inside layer of our blood vessels.
"Nitric oxide is a substance that helps to keep our blood vessels open," said Saunders. "During the early stages of plaque buildup or arteriosclerosis, one of the first things we see is a reduction in the amount of nitric oxide in the blood vessels. When we exercise, the accelerated pumping of our hearts forces more blood to flow through our vessels. As this blood pushes its way along the lining of our vessels, the endothelial cells release more nitric oxide."
You don't have to spend hours in the gym to reap the healthy benefits of exercise. Walking the dog, taking the stairs instead of the elevator, even vacuuming briskly can increase the blood flow from your heart and through blood vessels.
In addition to regular exercise, a heart-friendly diet is also important, said Saunders. Broiling foods instead of frying them and trimming the skin and fat off of meat all add up to less artery-clogging plaque in your blood vessels.
Say No to Smoking, Excessive Drinking
Another way to improve your overall cardiovascular health is to quit smoking and drinking a lot of alcohol. While drinking in moderation
doesn't seem to have much of an impact on your heart, having more than three drinks a day may contribute to high blood pressure. Alcohol has been shown to raise blood pressure by interfering with the flow of blood to and from the heart. When alcohol courses through your bloodstream, it pushes blood rich in nutrients away from your heart.
Studies have shown that it is much more difficult to control blood pressure if you drink heavily. Conversely, a reduction in alcohol consumption can help lower blood pressure.
Smoking also takes a heavy toll on the heart. According to the American Lung Association, over 400,000 Americans die of smoking-related illnesses each year. This figure includes those affected by secondhand smoke and babies born prematurely due to prenatal, maternal smoking.
Nicotine, one of thousands of chemicals found in cigarettes, causes the blood vessels to constrict. This narrowing of the vessels increases blood pressure.
Nicotine is an extremely addictive chemical. Studies show that nicotine activates the circuits in the brain that regulate pleasurable feelings. It does this by increasing the levels of a chemical found in our brains called dopamine. The U.S. Surgeon General warns that nicotine addiction is similar to heroine and morphine addiction. In fact, when smokers inhale, the nicotine reaches the brain faster than drugs that enter the body intravenously.
Kicking a smoking habit may not be easy, but it is worthwhile. About 1.3 million people quit smoking each year. The benefits of quitting are numerous. They include improved tolerance for exercise, and a reduction in the risk of developing lung cancer, bladder cancer and heart disease.
Three years after giving up nicotine, Saunders said that ex-smokers have a 65 percent reduction in deaths from heart disease relative to those who continue to smoke.
Make Heart-Healthy Changes
Experts urge the public to break those habits that threaten cardiovascular health. Adopting a more heart-healthy approach to life now can have a positive influence on future generations.
"We are all getting too fat in our society and we need to turn things around," said Saunders. "Physical inactivity among our youth is a real problem. We need to make sure that we eat eight servings of fruits and vegetables a day, and get more exercise. We need to get ourselves and our children away from the television sets and the computers, and start them exercising early in their lives.

How Spyware Get into your Computer

Mar 2, 2009

Spyware gets on your computer in one of several different ways.

  • Along with software you download from the internet and install on your system.
  • Come from email attachments (much like viruses) and automatically install themselves on your computer when you open the email message.
  • Hackers find an open port on your computer and use the “back door” to install basically anything they want.
  • The more malicious types, like keystroke loggers, can even get installed by someone with direct physical access to your computer such as an employer, suspicious spouse, business competitor, or someone who wants to know exactly what you’re doing.
